Fall down seven times, get up eight.
Martial arts tricking is a sport, a form of expression, and a community. It combines martial elements such as kicks with acrobatic elements like flips and spins. It is challenging and rewarding to learn, and it comes with one of the best communities out there. Trickers are supportive of one another. They recognize and celebrate effort more than most athletes in other disciplines. This is an important attitude to carry with you into tricking because it will involve quite a bit of falling down and messing up before you land new tricks.
Tricking truly fits the old Japanese proverb “Fall down seven times, get up eight.” It’s all about continuing to work hard through frustrations and roadblocks until you finally land the trick that you’ve been struggling with. And the celebration once you land it is wonderful.
